The RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23 Season 2 Player Retentions were announced on July 11, 2022. Teams were allowed to retain a maximum of three players from their Season 1 squad. After some careful thinking the teams shared their list of retained players on the 17th of July, 2022. Some were interesting choices by the teams but all showing great intent with their players and how they are planning to approach the next season. Here are the list of players who have been retained:
Kolkata Thunderbolts – No surprises that the inaugural champions retained the services of their star players MVP Vinit Kumar along with captain Ashwal Rai & Janshad U.
Ahmedabad Defenders - The team from the west retained ‘Captain Cool’ Muthusamy Appavu along with superstars Shon T John & S Santosh.
Calicut Heroes - The Heroes were the only team to not use all three retentions. They retained their captain Jerome Vinith and Abil Krishnan.
Hyderabad Black Hawks – The ongoing theme for the Black Hawks. After having the youngest squad in Season 1, the team retained the talented young trio of Guru Prasanth, the best blocker from Season 1 John Joseph and flying libero Anand K.
Bengaluru Torpedoes - Star attacker Pankaj Sharma, who had a prolific Season 1 for the Torpedoes, was retained along with setter Vinayak Rokhade and India’s best libero B Midhun Kumar.
Chennai Blitz – The team from Chennai retained a mix of experience and youth in their retention with star players Akhin GS, attacker Naveen Raja Jacob along with young setter Pinamma Prashant.
Kochi Blue Spikers - Dushyanth GN, the tallest player in RuPay Prime Volleyball League Season 1 along with the calm and stable C Venu were retained by Kochi. They also picked Erin Varghese to ensure they have enough firepower going into next season.
Mumbai Meteors - The new team on the block were offered the opportunity to sign any players from Season 1 that had not been retained by the franchisees. The team made some shrewd signings onboarding the young Anu James along with blocker Shameem and setter Aravindhan who played a crucial role in the success of the Kolkata Torpedoes win.
