For his return of 12 individual points at an efficiency of 61.11 percent, Kolkata Thunderbolts’ opposite striker Vinit Kumar was named the RuPay Player of the Match as his side beat Ahmedabad Defenders 3-2 (15-7, 15-4, 15-13, 8-15, 11-15) in the final league stage game of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League Powered by A23 Season 2.

Kolkata’s superiority against Ahmedabad was established quite early in the game as the Ashwal Rai-led side gave their opponent little to no room to be in control of the match.

Vinit, in particular, had a first set efficiency of 42.86 percent as four of his 12 overall points were accrued in the opening set itself. This included three points in attack and one from the launch.

By the second set, the 32-year-old veteran started getting involved in defence as well as upping his efficiency to 75 percent. Vinit was at his brutal best in the third round where he ended up scoring five individual points.

Once Kolkata Thunderbolts had the game in their bag within the first three sets, Vinit was called off the court. His influence on the game can be judged by the fact that once he got off, his team lost the last two sets.

In any way, a victory on Thursday meant Kolkata Thunderbolts finished the league stage at the top of the points table and are now set to face Bengaluru Torpedoes in the first semi-final on Friday, March 3. As far as Ahmedabad Defenders are concerned, they will lock horns with Calicut Heroes on Saturday, March 4.
