Kochi Blue Spikers put on a marvellous display to end their RuPay Prime Volleyball League Powered by A23 Season 2 journey on a high by beating Mumbai Meteors 4-1 (15-14, 15-11, 15-12, 12-15, 15-10) in what was a rather one-sided contest.

Kochi looked like a different team altogether on the night as they were largely efficient both in offence and defence. Speaking of offence, one man who made the difference was Rohit Kumar, who was named the RuPay Player of the Match for his fantastic performance.

The 27-year-old hit the double figures and surprisingly was one of the only two players to do so. Ending his night with 10 individual points, Rohit was only outscored by Mumbai Meteors’ Hiroshi Centelles, who tallied 12 points.

“We were nervous while warming up, but thanks to strong support from the fans, this win was made possible,” explained the 27-year-old during the post-match presentation.

“My journey has been excellent with this team and if it’s up to me, I’d want to be a part of the team in the next season as well,” he added.

Rohit’s willingness to give his best for Kochi Blue Spikers was made pretty evident during the game. The 6’3” outside hitter was instrumental throughout the game as he also recorded a Super Serve.

Such was his dominance on the night that he made just two errors in the attack to finish with an efficiency of 42.86 percent. Rohit’s influence was noticed in the first set itself as he accumulated five of his 10 overall points in the opening round. In the second set, he was responsible for consecutive spikes and a Super Serve.

Overall, Mumbai Meteors just could not cope with Rohit’s attacking prowess and his pinpoint accuracy throughout the game, which was, in fact, a big reason why they lost by a considerable margin.
