Bengaluru Torpedoes’ Ibin Jose was named the RuPay Player of the Match after his team beat Calicut Heroes 3-2 (15-11, 15-11, 13-15, 10-15, 15-14) in Match 26 of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League Powered by A23 Season 2.
The Torpedoes were aware of the task at hand. At this stage of the competition, a defeat would have ended their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs, hence it came as no surprise that the game went down to the wire to decide the winner.
Interestingly enough, Bengaluru’s win over Calicut was a result of absolute teamwork. To understand it a little better, one must point out that Calicut looked highly dependent on the performances of Vinith Jerome and Jose Antonio Sandoval.
Bengaluru, on the other hand, saw as many as seven players getting at least two points in their bag. By the end, Alireza Abalooch top-scored for the team with 12 points but it was Ibin’s performance which proved to be more crucial.
In the first set alone, Ibin fired two thunderous strikes to march an exciting comeback after going a point down early on in the contest. The first three sets were extremely productive for the 25-year-old and while his influence slowly faded towards the end, he did end up accumulating 11 points from the game.
A detailed analysis of his points goes on to show how critical and true he was to his ‘Universal’ position as four of his 11 points came from service. This was the most number of points any player, across both teams, managed to score from the launch. In attack, seven points were earned at an efficiency of 66.67 percent.
