“We understood we can cut down on our mistakes and we did exactly that,” said Erin Varghese as Kochi Blue Spikers got their first win of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League Powered by A23 Season 2 by getting better of the title hopefuls Calicut Heroes 3-2 (15-13, 14-15, 12-15, 15-7, 15-11) in the Kerala Derby on Saturday, February 25.
Varghese, named the RuPay Player of the Match for his scintillating display, was at his brutal best on the night. The 24-year-old outside hitter looked pumped up due to the roaring home support and was so fired up throughout the game that he ended the night being the highest scorer for his team, tallying an impressive 14 points.
A further bifurcation explains how clinical he was in the attack for his side as the outside hitter tallied 11 points from the department. Although he made five errors along the way which brought his efficiency down to 31.58 percent, he made it up with his blocking and serving skills.
While blocking, the local boy accumulated two points and gathered a solitary one from the launch. In all, Varghese brought his A-game on the night and if not for the errors, his night would have been perfect.
In any way, the 24-year-old dedicated the win to the amazing home support and Kochi will look to end their RuPay Prime Volleyball League Powered by A23 Season 2 on a high when the team takes on Ahmedabad Defenders in their penultimate game of the campaign on February 26, before locking horns with Mumbai Meteors on March 1.
