Ahmedabad Defenders’ Angamuthu Ramaswamy wears his heart on his sleeves and he was his usual self once again on Sunday as his team beat Bengaluru Torpedoes 3-2 (15-7, 15-10, 18-20, 13-15, 15-10) in a five-set thriller to become the champions of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League Powered by A23 Season 2.

Ahmedabad’s universal was in the thick of things since the very beginning and thanks to his return of 16 individual points, was named the RuPay Player of the Match. Notably, it was Ramaswamy’s second Player of the Match award in as many games after having troubled Calicut Heroes in the semi-final on February 4.

The 28-year-old’s authority was made evident in the first two sets itself. Thanks to his over-the-top involvement, the Defenders destabilized the Torpedoes to get early momentum.

Now, it’s one thing that Ramaswamy and Co. lost the plot midway through the match, but thanks to his sheer domination, the final set was won and so was the league title.

“We played really well,” said the 28-year-old as he collected his Player of the Match honour.

“We thought we could win in the first three sets, but becoming a champion is not easy and credit to Bengaluru for such a strong performance,” he added.

On a personal level, Ramaswamy’s best return came in the fourth set where he was responsible for five of the 13 points his team scored. Surprisingly enough, although he was involved in defence as well, each of his 16 points were tallied in offence at an efficiency of 39.29.
